After winning the toss Glenn Maxwell (Stars skipper) decided to bat first and Stars finished their first batting half at 163/4. Marcus Stoinis smashed 81* runs off 54 balls unbeaten with seven boundaries and four maximums. Haris Rauf picked up his first fifer, and that’s the very first five-wicket haul in Big Bash League 2019/20 season.
Rauf named player of the match for his maiden five-wicket haul that he started with the dismissing Ben McDermott in his first over. Nic Madison and Marcus Stonis gave a flying start to Melbourne Stars with their opening stand of 81 runs in the first ten overs. Stars lost their first wickets of Nic 40 runs of 39 balls at the very first ball of 11th over. Melbourne Stars lost their three other wickets in the next four overs. Ben Dunk scored 19 runs off 12 balls against Hurricanes with a single boundary and two maximums.
Hobart Hurricanes used seven bowlers in the bowling innings of which only Meredith and Qais Ahmed picked up three and single wickets respectively. Only three bowlers completed their four overs spell including the striker bowler Meredith, Qais, and Ellis. Hurricanes started their batting innings very well with the run rate of 8 runs and just after the dismissal of D’Arcy short batting line blown away. The team lost three wickets in the powerplay however maintained the run rate. The tenth over of the game turned the game in favor of the bowling team. Haris Rauf dismissed three batsmen in a single over, and the top-order batting line collapsed in the tough chase.
